Regional wastewater treatment improvements driven by major telecoms infrastructural project

Wastewater treatment efficiency in Donegal has been significantly improved thanks to the completion of a major SCADA, automation, telemetry and telecoms infrastructure project by EMR Integrated Solutions.

Integrated SCADA and Telemetry Network for Monitoring of Disinfection System for Irish Water

EMR was awarded a contract for the provision of an integrated SCADA and telemetry system for the monitoring of newly-installed disinfection systems in small treatment plants and storage facilities across the west of Ireland covering Mayo and Leitrim. This was completed on behalf of Irish Water for Mayo County Council.

EMR inks €1 million contract with Northern Ireland Water for telemetry upgrade

Dunboyne, Co Meath, Friday, 9th October 2015: Leading SCADA network and mobile telecommunications supplier, EMR Integrated Solutions today announced it has signed a €1 million contract with Northern Ireland Water (NIW) to upgrade the utility’s telemetry network.

The technology refresh renders the telemetry network IP-ready and is part of a strategic plan to protect the province’s high quality water supply and drive down operating costs. Read more

Chlornet - turbidity measurement from EMR

EMR continues drive towards better water quality with launch of chlorine residual analysis solution

Leading SCADA network and mobile telecommunications supplier, EMR Integrated Solutions today continued its drive towards better water quality with the launch of a high performance chlorine residual analysis solution for the water industry.

ChlorNet, available exclusively through EMR in Ireland, enables quick, accurate, real-time chlorine residual measurement in the water distribution network as well as at distribution sites such as reservoirs and booster stations.

Unlike hand-held chlorine residual analysers which typically provide sporadic data based on spot checks, ChlorNet sits at the tail end of the water distribution network and delivers continuous, real time analysis allowing water service providers to determine the correct chlorine dosage for the water supply.

Data collected by ChlorNet can also be fed back into the SCADA network providing operators with a dashboard view of real-time chlorine residual levels.

Commenting on the launch, Brian Martin, director of sales for SCADA, Telemetry and Instrumentation with EMR said:

“ChlorNet represents the second launch in as many months, of solutions designed to deliver better water quality and lower operational costs. Incorrect chlorine dosage in the drinking water supply could pose a public safety risk and the Environmental Protection Agency has set down strict standards around chlorine residual that must be available to protect against harmful bacteria.

EMR announces exclusive launch of ATI’s turbidity monitoring solution in Ireland

Leading SCADA network and mobile telecommunications supplier, EMR Integrated Solutions today announced the launch of ATI’s NephNet to the Irish market, a high performance turbidity monitoring solution for the water industry.

Available exclusively through EMR, the solution has already saved the UK water industry millions of pounds through reconditioning of existing water mains instead of evasive cleaning and/or re-lining.

NephNet is a portable, battery-operated turbidity monitor, which offers months of continuous, accurate readings at low levels.   The NephNet is the only device that can monitor continuously and for long periods of time to deliver high alarms of events.

Laois County Council awards SCADA network extension to EMR

Laois County Council awards SCADA network extension to EMR

Leading communications and SCADA network supplier, EMR Integrated Solutions today secured a major SCADA network expansion contract with Laois County Council to provide real-time monitoring and control of more than 50 critical infrastructure sites throughout the county.

Installation of the new sites will be completed within three months and bring investment in the network to date to over €500,000.

Under the terms of the deal, EMR will install PLCs, HMIs and radio communications together with an upgrade of the electrical control systems at some sites.

The contract follows the successful completion of the Stage I of the Water Conservation SCADA system for Laois County Council in 2012.

These sites will now be monitored and controlled from the Laois County Council’s SCADA system, delivering information to managers and field personnel using EMR’s cloud-hosted SCADA servers and brings the number of sites on the system to over 200.


EMR to deploy telemetry and control system for Kildare County Council

EMR helps Longford County Council to reduce energy consumption at the town’s waste water treatment works

Leading SCADA and instrumentation provider, EMR Integrated Solutions today announced it has secured a contract to provide real-time monitoring of the energy consumption at Longford Town Waste Water Treatment Works.  The new system allows Longford Water Services to better understand how, when and where energy is consumed while having the ability to also assess the quality of the incoming supply.

The initial system comprises of multi-channel power monitors providing information on performance at equipment level as well as at the incoming supplies.

Although Longford is the fourth smallest of the 32 counties in area (1,091km2) and second smallest in terms of population (38,970), Longford County Council have been active in investigating ways to reduce energy consumption.

Commenting on the project, Padraig Farrell of Longford County Council said:

“EMR demonstrated a strong comprehension of our outline requirements and have delivered a feature rich solution. The system has greatly improved our ability to see what’s happening on our plants in relation to better operation and energy consumption.”

Through the calculation of EPIs (economic performance indicators) EMR could demonstrate how each item of monitored equipment was performing. This insight allows Longford to use the better performing equipment while identifying equipment needing attention.

A secure Ethernet wireless 2.4GHz IEEE 802.11g/b LAN with 128bit WEP and WPA encryption was created on site to retrieve process data from including flows and dissolved oxygen levels for the calculation of the EPIs without the requirement for additional cabling. Encryption of this wireless network was sufficient to form part of the Longford County WAN.

With the addition of SCADA, the energy information retrieved is combined with process data and presented in customized reports relating energy loads to unit costs, time, equipment efficiency, control methods and environmental factors. The reports are emailed automatically to relevant personnel, eliminating any requirement to retrieve data manually and are now being reviewed by production and accounts departments on a monthly basis. Based on these reports, better work practices are being implemented/tested relating to how and when energy is consumed and associated cost reductions achieved.
