Robust microwave connectivity for ESB SCADA network

The ESB enjoys reliable and robust telecoms connectivity for its mission-critical SCADA at the network edge, thanks to microwave radio links, supplied by EMR Integrated Solutions.

Under a framework agreement secured through competitive tender, EMR provides ESB with the 4RF Aprisa XE, a high-performance, flexible point-to-point microwave link, which serves over 60 locations, including many of the company’s windfarm sites, throughout the country.

The solution provides ESB with resilient microwave connectivity at sub 3GHz – for its mission-critical SCADA network, which carries crucial operational data from its distribution and transmission assets in the field. Read more

RTÉ NL awards relocation contract to EMR

Leading communications and SCADA network supplier, EMR Integrated Solutions today announced a contract from RTÉ NL to redesign and relocate the microwave and multiplex backbone network for 2RN as part of the their move from RTE Donnybrook to Cookstown, Dublin 24.

The award follows a competitive tendering process.

The project will require a live switch over of existing services from the legacy network to the new relocated network and will take approximately four months to complete.

Leading communications and SCADA network supplier, EMR Integrated Solutions today announced it has been awarded a multi-million euro microwave network contract by Eircom NI.

Leading communications and SCADA network supplier, EMR Integrated Solutions today announced it has been awarded a multi-million euro contract by Eircom NI.

Under the terms of the deal, EMR will deliver a managed service microwave radio network, which will form an integral part of Eircom NI’s infrastructure to deliver unified communications services to key business customer in Northern Ireland.

The rollout is expected to take 18 months.

EMR Integrated Solutions today announced it has completed the design and installation of a wide area, wireless communications network for the Law Library.

Law Library chooses EMR to deploy mission-critical microwave communications network

Leading communications and network services provider, EMR Integrated Solutions today announced it has completed the design and installation of a wide area, wireless communications network for the Law Library.  The network includes three high speed microwave links with two of the links running at 155Mbits and the third offering 1Gbit capacity.

The network allows all users of the law library to access the custom-designed information portal which provides access to over 130,000 items, using Web 2.0 technologies.

The Gigabit radio link operates in the 70GHz to 80GHz licensed band and is specifically designed to operate at very high speeds over short distances. The 155Mbits links operate in the traditional 6-38 GHz licensed bands. All the radios links supplied are licensed radios units approved for use by the Irish Communications Regulator (ComReg).

Commenting on the new network, Michael Lynch of the Law Library said:

“EMR have demonstrated a comprehensive knowledge of the detailed requirements of our unique application. The installed solution allows our members to operate very efficiently, they have high praise for the system speed and increase reliability. As IT mangers we can monitor the performance of the network on a real time basis which means we can proactively attend to issues as they occur. EMR deserve high praise indeed for delivering exactly what we wanted on time and to budget.”

The Law Library provides a library and information service to the members of the Law Library. It is the central physical point of access to a modern, court-going library service. The collection of resources comprises legal textbooks, journals, legislation and case law. The service also manages access to a variety of commercial and in-house electronic databases.

Cypriot national broadcaster signs EMR for multimillion euro network upgrade to faciliate digital terrestrial service

Leading communications provider, EMR Integrated Solutions today announced a multi-million euro contract with the Cypriot national broadcaster, Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation.  The deal, signed in partnership with JD Dynamics and Netinsight will see the consortium design and build a replacement microwave and multiplex network, to enable CyBC’s distribution network to be DTT (digital terrestrial television) compliant.

The DTT network scheduled to launch by the end of 2010 will be the transport network for all DTT services, including radio, across Cyprus. It also will supply High Definition contribution services in a JPEG 2000 format from regional studios back to the main site in Nicosia. The transport network covers 11 main transmitter sites and four reporter sites. EMR utilizing NEC Pasolink portfolio of microwave radios and Netinsight utilizing the Nimbra range of multiplexers are used extensively throughout the network

Commenting on the deal, Grigoris Maliotis, director of technology and CyBC said:

“After an extensive evaluation process, we have selected the EMR/JD/Netinsight partnership as the top choice for delivering the national DTT network,” says Mr Grigoris Maliotis, Director of Technology at CyBC. “The partners’ proven success in media transport made them an ideal choice to help build the next generation platform for our transport and video network.”

The Nimbra 680 will be the core node, located in Nicosia, offering the ultimate in distribution and contribution flexibility when paired with switches from the Nimbra 300 series at the transmitter and studio site nodes.

The Microwave design is a resilient ring with some spur links to link the regional sites. The NEC Pasolink links operate at STM-1 and provide the necessary bandwidth for the multiplex network.

This form of distributed network architecture utilizing high speed microwave links to provide the bearer is fast becoming the de facto standard for new DTT network designs.

The new network will guarantee 100 percent QoS in distributing video services across Cyprus, provide scalable multicast capabilities and a single distribution and contribution switched network.

CYBC will manage the entire radio network through the EMR installed PNMSj management platform, which offers additional security and provides easy provisioning.

The CYPRUS BROADCASTING CORPORATION (CyBC) is the public broadcaster of the Republic of Cyprus. CyBC is a full member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which is based in Geneva. It is also a member of the Commonwealth Broadcasters Association (CBΑ), the Permanent Conference of Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM) and the European Association of Regional Television (CIRCOM). It is also a founding shareholder of EuroNews.

EMR wins major contract with RTÉ NL

Leading communications and SCADA network supplier, EMR Integrated Solutions today announced a €3.8 million contract to supply, install and commission a new national microwave network to provide RTÉ NL with the capability to roll out Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT).

The project entailed not only the installation of the microwave elements, but also incorporated the video multiplexers, the audio codes, the stand-by power systems and the integration of the network management systems with the RTÉ NL SCADA system.

Two of the main challenges posed were the very tight deadlines and the requirement to work on a live network without interrupting TV or radio service. The fact that the high sites are located in some of the most remote locations in the country added to the complexity.

Working closely with RTÉ NL, EMR began the rollout in October 2008 and the first sites went live in November of that year. By the following March all twenty high sites and the studios in the Dublin headquarters in Donnybrook and the studios in Donegal, Sligo, Galway, Limerick and Cork were live.
